Grant of Probate delays due to the rising number of applications

Families of Bereaved families and a loved one’s estate administration continue to face delays for Grant of Probate applications in England and Wales.

A recent 2022 STEP article reports that a total of 23,572 applications were received by HM Courts and Tribunals Service in January 2022.

This is a total increase of 5,297 (29%) on the 18,275 applications received in December 2021 for probate.

Probate applications are not the only sector to suffer delays. Housing applications, including eviction and disrepair, are also facing delays and the criminal sector.

They are partly due to the backlog due to COVID-19 and the court closures in recent years.
